In just two weeks and two days, I’ll be leaving Indiana for my third music festival of 2010. The season kicked off- as it traditionally does- in April with Muncie’s Springfest, followed by my inaugural trip to Summer Camp in Illinois over Memorial Day Weekend. In July, I’ll meet another new festival as I travel to the 14th annual All Good Music Festival at Marvin’s Mountaintop in Masontown, West Virginia.
All Good will be the furthest I’ve traveled for such an event, surpassing the six-hour roadtrip to Bonnaroo by one hour. I suspect the extra distance will be worth it, though. You don’t get this kind of a view from inside the flatlands of Manchester, TN.

All Good’s 2010 lineup boasts heavy hitters whose names you’ve seen on other major Midwest festival bills this year (including Umphrey’s McGee, Bassnectar, Yonder Mountain String Band, Papadosio, Keller Williams, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, and Cornmeal) but they also offer bands you love that aren’t flooding the festival circuit, making All Good an enticing destination for true music lovers. Additional notable performers on the schedule include Tea Leaf Green, Old Crow Medicine Show, Furthur (Featuring Phil Lesh & Bob Weir), Lotus, Dr. Dog, Railroad Earth, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Widespread Panic, Garage A Trois, and the wickedly bizarre Big Nazo (who, to my understanding, have become a staple of the All Good experience).
In addition to a stellar lineup that successfully fails to mirror other Midwestern festivals, All Good has a unique feature that you won’t find anywhere else: no overlapping sets! If you’ve ever attended a music festival of any kind, you’ve surely had to make some of the most heartbreaking decisions of your life when determining which of two (or three or four) simultaneous shows you will attend.
All Good has eliminated the monkey business of dealing with Which Stage and That Tent, placing the majority of their acts on one of two stages at the front of the concert field. All Good’s natural amphitheater serves as the epicenter of the festival; my best speculation would be to think Verizon Wireless capacity, minus the overhead pavilion, with about 4 times the space. As soon as one show concludes, the next begins on the neighboring stage. An added bonus: energy is conserved by eliminating the need to constantly relocate to the next show across festival grounds.

All Good falls the same weekend that Tom Petty comes to Indianapolis and Louisville hosts Forecastle (July 8-11), but the die-hard festival goers will certainly favor this event over the others (hellooo- camping in the mountains!). While I know many Indianapolis residents who are veterans to Summer Camp, Bonnaroo, Rothbury, and 10KLF. I have yet to meet a local who's attended All Good. Leave a comment if you've got a story to share or plan to go this year; I am now readily accepting tips and tricks from the professionals.
Tomorrow night you can catch an All Good preview at Birdy’s as Michigan’s own Greensky Bluegrass (making their All Good debut this year) will play with local favorites Waldemere Revival.

I'm planning on heading out for the first time this year. We've been to Forecastle for the past 2 years, and with them raising the ticket price and still not including camping the decison was easy. ALL GOOD!!! The line-up promises to be a steller weekend with Keller doing 2 sets on the last night. Also being able to see many of the acts that might also be at Forecastle such as Widespread Panic, Bassnectar, Umphrey's, Grace Potter, and The New Deal. With all that being said I don't see why you wouldn't go to All Good. We will be at Birdy's to check out Greensky Bluegrass. CANT WAIT!!!
Hey!
I'm working in Bloomington, Indiana and have friends from Atlanta who are going to All Good :D However, I could use a ride there. If anyone is willing (I would pay for gas) my email is kgonynor@indiana.edu. Thanks guys!
