Thumbs up: Eyes on the prize

Indiana Black Expo has announced the winners of the 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest. Junior high and high school students were asked to respond to a question inspired by Dr. King's life and legacy. In 1966, Dr. King told the National Convention of the Medical Committee for Human Rights: "Of all forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane." Students were asked how universal health care related to Dr. King's message and whether they thought the U.S. should adopt a universal health care policy. Will Cunningham, a sixth grader at Zionsville Middle School, won the contest. Sean Vandyke and Jeffrey Anderson, eighth graders from Anderson Prep placed second and third among 200 entrants.
