The Indianapolis Museum of Art has been named one of 10 recipients of the 2009 National Medal for Museum and Library service, the nation's highest honor for museums and libraries. In announcing the award, the Institute of Museum and Library Services cited the IMA's commitment to offering free admission, its programs for schools and teachers, efforts to improve accessibility for all visitors, online initiatives like ArtBabble.org, and the museum's efforts regarding environmental sustainability, including its being the first museum to be awarded with an ENERGY STAR for energy efficiency.
